After 2 years of researching this idea here and there, my colleague and I got serious about the flip this summer and met for several weeks to figure out a plan.
I'm flipping French 1 and he's flipping French 2. Our school is on a regular, non-block schedule with 48 minutes.
The big catalyst this year is that our school has begun to implement 1:1. All of this year's Freshmen have Chromebooks, so students have ample opportunity to access videos.
Our core content is a semi-scripted dialogue inspired by the publications by Real Language Right Away. Language is presented in usable forms but with options for students to swap in other vocabulary.
Using the dialogues as our core, we planned to work through a sequence of scripted dialogue, grammar integration with the dialogue, and progressively move toward using the language from the dialogue but in a creative, unscripted conversation.
